How To Prepare Your Home For Packing21Mar 2014
Moving house is a long process that can really take it out of you and your family. There are lots of ways in which you can prepare for your moving day, but did you know that you should also take certain steps to help you prepare your home for packing? Here are just a few ways in which you can make sure that everything is ready for packing in your home!1) Have all the supplies that you will need. There are lots of supplies that you’re going to need for your house move. Boxes, bags, labels, packing tape, padding materials, foam packing peanuts and bubble-wrap are just a few of the items that you’re going to need in order to pack quickly and efficiently, and without having to worry about accidental breakages! Stock up on all of these items and anything else that you might think you’ll need to ensure that you won’t have to worry when you start to pack your home! 2) Get rid of any unwanted items.Your home is probably full of items that you no longer use and don’t actually want to take with you. Before you start packing you should sort through each room of your house and get rid of anything that you don’t need or want. This might be kitchen appliances, old clothes or even worn furniture! Items that are in good condition should be donated to charity, though if you have bits and bobs that you think might sell well then why not auction them online to make a bit of money for yourself? Any items that aren’t looking their best should be thrown away. This will help to cut-down on clutter and will give you a better idea of how much you have to pack! 3) Clean your home thoroughly.Once you’ve had a good clear out of your home then you’re ready to start cleaning. The cleaning process will help to reveal any unwanted items that you might have missed, and will keep your home looking fantastic for your landlord or the next occupants. Do a thorough job and don’t forget to pull-out and clean behind your furniture – you might also find items that have fallen here! 4) Work through the food in your kitchen. In the weeks leading up to your house move you need to start preparing your kitchen. Begin by getting rid of any expired products that you might have in your fridge, freezer or cupboards. Next make a list of everything that you have in your home and try and turn this list into meal guides for the whole family. This will help you to use any food that you don’t want to take with you. This is especially important for your fridge and freezer, as well as for any perishable items, as these won’t be able to survive the move. Try to cook and eat as much food as possible so that you aren’t going to be wasting anything! 5) Watch what you’re purchasing in the weeks before your move.Once you have a meal plan for your house move you need to make sure you aren’t going to be buying any foods that are going to perish or that are going to fill up your cupboards just before moving day! The same goes for cleaning products, clothes and anything else you might want to purchase. Try to keep your buying to a minimum before you move as it will just mean that you have more items to pack!
